Harry, this was the inital idea. I simply had the following problem. Where to take the engine from? Only source available is the Bedford CF with low compression 2,3 litre OHC engine - not a real racer is it? Optional Lotus Head could be added in theory - don't know how for the moment. So I got the Chevette 1,3 already in very good condition - too good to tear apart and build a rally car. I thought about putting in some CIH engine which didn't exist in the chevette. No way in rallying it in a legal way, the engine block has to be off the series. I abandoned all the project due to amount of work that would need to be spent until I came across my HS on ebay. It is in rather poor condition with interior and other parts missing. Already empty and from a rust point of view "not too bad". So I went for it to convert it to the rally replica. Why wouldn't you take the original HS for this? You mean I should rather restore it to its original appearance I guess. Believe me I took this one as it is in poor condition, I would not have bought it if it was somehow original or in good condition. See picture of my Ascona in my galeries that is also restored to its (almost) original condition. I intend to use the replica on historic rallies like the "slowly sideways group" do - obviously you also know them. For maximum attack I've got my BMW. Hope you don't mind about my plans... Erik
