Doubtful, I spoke to somone from Strathclyde police after being redirected from a number that was emailed to me following a rogue advert on Gumtree a couple of months ago for a Transit Recovery Truck, listed as being in London and the guy had relocated to Scotland, email address was a well known solicitors in Scotland . . except it didn't match the email address from the company website, I emailed the genuine guy and told him his identity was being used to try and make the advert look authentic, he came back and advised there had been over 100 adverts in three months using a version of his ID, I then rang the number and spoke to a policman who advised that they estimated close to a third of the adverts on Gumtree selling items are fraudulent, and despite shutting sellers down they reappear with another ID, usually foreign nationals and often placed from outside the UK and all demand instant payment and often offer free delivery of vehicles, boats, large items etc and as a rule the items are far cheaper than usual to entice people who think they are getting a mega deal to pay ASAP. The moral of the story is only use the contact links in ads, be wary of any ads with an email address posted as a method of contact, and be wary of poor grammar and a bargain. I wouldn't buy anything major without viewing first or getting somone to view it for me, I usually follow the same rule of thumb "If it sounds to good to be true then it usually is".
