We had a mixed day last sunday on the St Wilfrid's, we finished 14th overall and we were quickest on 3 of the tests, but the navigation was spoiled by problems on the first regularity section with the trip in the car. After the Ross Traders the speedo cable was broken so the trip didn't work so I decided to fit a wheel sensor on a front wheel instead as they are supposed to be more accurate but on the first section it wasn't reading consistently and we dropped two and a half minutes in total at the 4 controls. During the neutral section that followed I switched the wires back on to the speedo cable sensor in the new cable and we carried on with that for the next 3 sections with no trouble, but then at the start of the fifth section just after leaving Lightwater Quarry there was no trip again, at the end of the section I looked underneath the car and the speedo cable had come off and was trailing on the ground! but luckily this short section was cancelled due to a closed road and a control in the wrong place so we got away with that one.
The start of the last section was as we left Melmerby Industrial Estate after some more tests, so while Kevin was plotting the route, I got my spanners out and moved the wheel sensor a bit closer to the back of the hub and reconnected the wires and it worked perfectly all through the section, so it must have been not quite close enough when I fitted it!
This is a youtube film of the first and last tests at Thirsk Auction Mart taken by my sister in law and uploaded by my niece
I'm away on holiday for the next round of the championship so my next outing won't be until Throckmorton on 4th October
