Hi Guys
Great to see the pics of the Torana finished. I saw pictures of it when it was 'found' and the guy said he was going to resotre it to period. Talking to MarkO of AMC magazine we had a plan to re-unite BvR with the car and do an article including using my CanAm (for those that don't know he designed the CanAm) to get a lot of BvR's history and aso do a comparison of CanAm v Torrie. It hasn't happened yet, Mark is a busy fella but last time I saw BvR he was keen to do it.
Would love any pics of the Torrie to add to my BvR folder of history.
I have been waiting for Biante to do the model of the 4 door (which would most likely be in PB livery) and I was going to buy two, keep one and do the other as BvR/GM car and give it to him.
No, there were no Firenza's raced in Aus. From HB onwards the Viva was sold as a Torana (early HB's were also Viva's). The LC replaced the HB and uses teh same floor pan as the HC but all new bodyshell. The 6cyl LC got new fron subframe crossmember as it is longer. LJ is 'upgraded' LC (cosmetics mostly plus increase to 3.3l). TA was last of eh line but only a 4cyl. LH is an all new car, bigger (4,6 & v8), followed by LX and finally UC(no v8).
The Firenza was sold in NZ - hence the Kiwi born customs official that saw my CanAm when I unpacked it "Geez cuz, haven't sin one of theez in a while" - and then flabergasted him when I opened the bonnet and explained its history. :)
So no, the CanAm never raced here either. One was brought across for 1998/1999/2000(????) Targa Tasmania which I only found out years after owning mine - it went back to SA each time though. I have been trying to find it ever since but it appears to have disappeared. Not even sure if it was a guenuine one or not yet. So mine is still the only one in Aus. Currently up to 16 survivors.
Cheers Seth :)
