Posts: 1 20 September, 2007 6:57 PM DSG Member	Tags : None Hi All, I am just rebuilding my Droopsnoot, bought it from a lady near Redhill a couple of years back but only just started the restoration about 6 weeks ago.. Its registration number is KLL 348N. Here are a few of it before the restoration and as it is now The subframe has been completely rebuilt Managed to buy a Brand New Old Nail Body Kit Also managed to find an LSD axle Engine was specially modified last year for racing but was too heavy in the Striker car and while very quick its compromised the handling And eventually its going to have an Emerald ECU and Throttle bodies As things progress will add some more photos. Posts: 4 20 September, 2007 8:37 PM DSG Member	Thanks Harry, I have lots more pictures but did not want to bore everyone with them but can post them if your interested. Had the car sand blasted and am so glad I did, the guy done a fantastic job and removed every last sq inch under seal. What it showed up it that many of the seams were rotten so I cut out all the rotten parts and replaced, where possible with new parts but things like floors and inner sill have had to make. I am no restorer but have been taking things slowly and seem to have made reasonable progress. Am really looking forward to getting it ready for next season. Will have to take a picture of all the metal that been removed, its quite a pile now

Though in my defence, at that time it was quite easy to drop on clean Viva E coupes to use as a donor, and it had almost none of the special parts left. But that's an inspiration - Sean, sign him up for a "Members Snoot" article, quick before he gets away!

Posts: 9 24 September, 2007 6:20 PM DSG Member	Hi Harry, I bought the sub-frame complete with all the sportparts on it, I then dismantled it and blasted each item, coated with zinc primer and then painted with satin black. Did consider getting it powdered coated but after putting a friend's savage cortina front end together that had been powder coated it seemed a little brittle. Have I done the wrong thing?

Posts: 10 24 September, 2007 6:56 PM DSG Member	When replacing the track control arms the powder coating on the cross-member where the bolt retains the TCA just decided to flake of in a large chunk. The bolt had stainless washers on it so it not as if the head twisted against the cross-member and chewed it off. So I decided to just paint mine, that way if it is chipped in the future it can be repaired in situ.

I've decided to go the 2-pack type enamel and hardner type paint which sems to withstand fuel and oils that can get down there. Those pics were so inspiring I began assessing my Firenza's restoration. Would like to see more if you can post up.

I am not a restorer, just an enthusiast like most people here, I dont have any special skill and what I do have are self taught so basically anyone can do it given the time, patience and motivation. Posts: 57 25 September, 2007 6:49 PM DSG Member	That Rostyle, thought only we used them here in ZA. Did some of you Vauxhall's have them ? Those type Rostyles were first seen here in the late sixties on what we had here a re-badged Opel Rekord coupe badged as a "Ranger" SS. It was available in colors no thief could steal, purple for one. had stripes over the car, a nice exhaust note with twin tailpipes and the fancy stuff GT's would have. Then they were used on the Firenza GT. The rims were also used on "Chevair's here (Opel Manta 400 but 4 door shape rebadged as Chevrolet) Difference between the Rostyles the Chevair used against those on the Ranger and Firenza GT was a few mm offset. My MK Viva GT has different style Rostyles as I see mostly on your Vauxhall's also Ford Rostyles have the same centre design. What happens with regards your wheels Reg ? See you've made the Snoot rims neat but with regards the wider arches you've fitted ?

Lino, those are Opel Rostyles; they were fitted at various times to pretty much every Opel sold in Europe from the late '60s to the early '80s, and to the Opel based RWD Vauxhalls like the Mk1 Cavalier and Chevette. Incidentally, your Chevairs are Mk1 Cavaliers over here. What pitch circle do your cars run on the wheel studs? Over here, the Viva based stuff is 4", while the Opel based cars are 100 mm.
