Posts: 14 12 November, 2007 9:53 PM DSG Member	Tags : None Ed Hubbard bought one of the ex South African Chev Dealer Team Can Ams and brought it to the UK late in 1989. I believe that he raced it in some sort of historic series in 1990. Norris Miles campained an ex works RS3100 Capri in the same series. Does this ring any bells with anybody? I'd really like to find out what happened to this car. Any hints greatfully received. Mention of Ed's name seems to worry some people because of other events areound that time, so please PM me if you would rather do it that way. Thanks John www.perana.org

My E-mail "I'm trying to find out some details on a Chevrolet Firenza that belonged to Ed Hubbard. I did find this link http://www.gomog.com/articles/no1judgement.html all very interesting. I've also attached a picture I took at Silverstone (1989?) of "Old Number One". What ever happened to the car? I remember Dad got slightly involved in it as one of his friends was very high up within Middlebridge (I can't remember his name though!!) and I still have the nosecone from Damon Hill's F3000 that he raced for Middlebridge in 1990." The Response "The link you had tells the story of the court case re "Old No. 1", which Ed Hubbard sold to the Middlebridge for £10m. They actually couldn't pay up, so challenged the provenance and after a long court case, Hubbard won. However, the car ended up the property of Barclay's Bank - by default. The Bank seized the car and kept it a garage in Bovingden. Ed Hubbard disappeared to America and allegedly set up with the infamous Bernie Cornfeld. Ed died about 4 years ago. Ed actually bought the car from an American for £750,000. It has recently been bought by a German (unknown sum) and is being or has been restored yet again by Graham Moss. Posts: 113 13 December, 2007 4:01 PM DSG Member	This is interesting hence the cloud of mystery since the Can Am left ZA. I would'nt be able to comment further here as I'm not too sure what is being said. Except that there was one very expensive Bentley think it was he had which went for millions. John did some research there in fact it was mentioned somewhere regarding this legal thing which went down in 1990 or started about there. The Can Am must have left here early 1990. This photo I took my very last sight of the car as we turned and walked away from it after the days race. I think was the last time it was seen raced here. It would have looked exactly like in this photo when it was packed for the UK. Paddy O'Sullivan in the "Hubbard" Can Am ahead of an ex-works Ford XR8 in the North v South V8 race. My last sight of the ex-No. 2 Dealer Team Can Am also known as the "Guest" car leaving the Zwartkops Raceway (Pretoria) pits. Originally maroon/white in the same paint scheme. Posts: 1 1 August, 2008 3:39 PM	I would also like to know where this ex-works Can Am went to & see it returned to South Africa. I can fill in a bit of it's history however. It was bought from 'the factory team' ie. Geoff Mortimer by a certain Mr Mitri Mitri (yes it is his correct name) who painted it black & called it the 'Black Mamba'. He raced it in a club series (Castrol Clubmans) in the late seventies against my Dad's 'improved' road going Can Am. I saw Mitri last year November at Kyalami & he confirms it was the maroon & white 'guest car' - ex-Nols Nieman, & the same car that was subsequently rebuild by Paddy O'Sullivan (RIP) before being shipped off th England in the early nineties. Perhaps even more interesting would be to know the whereabouts of the 'special' Can Am built for the '73 Kyalami 9-hour a year after the original two race cars. According to Basil van Rooyen it was a much improved package with 16" wheels & thus bigger brakes. It was painted in the old South African flag colours of orange, white & blue & can (just) be seen chasing down Jochen Mass' V6 Capri somewhere on u-tube! It ran out of gearbox oil after 1 hour however. Richard Sorensen

I happened accross this site by accident but hopefully you guys can fill some of the missing Middlebridge history, It would be great to see the picture you took of old No 1 in 1989 and any pictures of Damon Hills F3000 car, I honestly don't know if there is any value to the nosecone but it would be a great item if it could be displayed at any of the Middlebridge Club events.
