Hi there, ive just joined and figured you might like to see some pictures of my car. Its a 1971 Viva SL 1600 4 door, in Honey Starmist with Black trim. Ive owned it nearly 6 years, and it was supplied new to a bank manager on the Isle of Wight. When I bought it was tidy from a distance and still rot free with all original panels, but it also had surface rust creeping in and nearly every panel had a dent. The Vinyl roof was cracked and peeling as well. I used it as is was for a year or two, then decided to "do something with it". Over the next year it was stripped, a few small welding jobs done, the dents straightened out, and resprayed. A local trimmer fitted a new roof and there it is! I used it all last summer for shows and for fun, but i got a bit bored with the lack of power. I was very seriously considering dropping in a 2300 engine, i even found a suitable low mileage ex-FE motor to do the job with, but I decided not to in the end because of its rarity.
So, early this year when an unused Blydenstein stage 1 cylinder head came up through a contact, I snapped it and the matching camshaft up and decided to improve the little 1600 engine. Its now running both these, complete with a Weber 28/36DCD carb jetted to suit sitting on an adapter copied from a photo in the "Tuning Vivas and Firenzas" book. Its also got Lumenition Optronic electronic ignition and free flow stainless exhaust. The cylinder head was converted to Unleaded by my local engineers shop and it now goes and sounds very nicely indeed! It will keep up with my mates 2300 FE no problem, plus its still a 1600 so no guilty feelings about keeping it original.
The wheels came off eBay and are a bit of a mystery - they are stamped Exacton and i was told they were export only wheels for canada? Not sure if i believe that but i have never seen another set and they are made for a Viva - the offset and PCD is spot on.
Anyone know anything about them?
This winters job is to rebuild the suspension - ive already stripped, blasted, painted and superflexed the rear end and im now starting on the front.
