Hello, just a quick one i have the MRP Rally Library book by Graham Robson which seems to list all the works competition Chevette HS and HSR cars that were used.
My question is there is one for sale at the following link that claims to be an ex works car with original Shell and ID BUT the reg is DEB 507 V which isn't listed as a works car according to this book ???

I have a friend of a friend who is intersted in the car and has asked me to do some digging as to its history and i know it has been built propper and everything and i mean everything is NEW on the car, but im still not sure as to the so claimed EX - Works part of it CAN ANY ONE HELP ???? I was told it was as a Junior Rally Team car and that why the reg is not a well known or documented one ????

The Robson book isn't 100% reliable in places. Having said that, DEB 507V wasn't a works car - it was Russell Gooding's Catnic Steel Lintels Chevette, a very well known car in its day, which started life as a Gp 4 HS built from an HS road car. Oily bits were from Shepreth but I don't think we know for sure whether it was Shepreth or Gooding built and who did the shell, assuming it's the original shell.

from what ive heard about the car it was a safety devices built shell the car last time i saw it running was a 2.6 with 15 wheels big ap brakes all of which weren't homoligated ,the bit were believed to have been swaped between 2 other car's kfl306w and the other i cant remember the reg but 306 got most the unhomoligated bits ,ive also been told the suspension on deb isnt legal to run in historics ,saying that i'd buy it if i had the money

Car is owned by a guy in Dublin having to sell due to credit crunch he bought it from Jason Lepley year or so ago he has now got it back on a sale or return basis think it was one of Garry Midwinters cars can be had for just under £30k.

Have just joined this forum, and its great to read and see what people/cars are upto ; It is a shame, however, that certain members make quotes that aren't true...i.e. DEB is not on sale or return.... nor was it sold to us due to credit crunch...
However, back to the facts... having had a few ex works chevettes , I have no doubt of DEB's originality, although it has had a no expense spared restoration it still has its original SD badge welded to the shell and its original DTV style chassis plate rivetted to slam panel. Not to mention many original features , it is an orginal SD late spec. LWB shell and not a HS converted to HSR spec. this car was later used on several World Championship events by Russell Gooding-1984(and indeed scored wrc points agianst the worlds best !) It is also believed this car was used for Rallysprint duties by Pond etc. Any more info and photos would be appreciated.

Going back to something said above - if an ex-Safety Devices car was that when Gerry J was there and if so would it not be pretty similar to DTV spec, even down to certain little things like badges? I suppose it's like HS's that Bil converted to HSRs - not true HSRs by the letter of the law but then again probably better than an HSR!!

Am not questioning the originality - as Sean said, very well-known car and I reckon probably the must photographed Chevette in the early '80s!!

If this car is Ex Works it will have a chassis plate beginning WBB2300if this is not on the car it is not genuine All HSR cars were Converted at Shepreth and not the factory as many people think.

just saw the thread. russell gooding is a very old friend of my dad's. he was at my old man's 50th bday celebrations about 3 weeks ago. i talked to russell about how he got involed in rallying and wat he raced in, events and cars. he said he got involed in rallying through his cousin wayne gooding. he said that his first car was his chevette, which was his everyday road car which was later modified to compete in rally stages. it was not a works car at all. though later on in his career he had a works rover SD1 and he also said that he had a works land rover for the paris dakar rally, which had in excess of 400bhp

Contrary to the above,DEB507V was an HS before it was an HSR.

There was a very brief glimpse of the back of DEB507V on the telly the other night, ITV4 covered the Goodwood Festival of Speed and it was on there.

Great photos ,
Yes I knew was originally was rally in HS spec and it is a HS on the log book ,
Later re-shelled into LWB , HSR shell before 1000 Lakes , Portugal rallies etc.
More history and more photos the better please.
Yes , the car had an invite from Lord March for Goodwood FOS this year ...car felt great, alittle too soft on rear springs, but can soon mend that ...
I am now looking for front and rear anti roll bars ...can anyone help me pls.

I'm pretty sure Russell Gooding's HSR was either KFL 305W or KFL 306W, which of course were works cars.

I was an interested spectator on the 1984 International Welsh Rally, where I can remember 2 HSR's in the entry, one being Russell and the other Tony Morgan. From memory Tony's car was UER 831S, which was a works HS number according to the MRP book (which I gave to the chap who purchased my HS a few years ago).

I've got photos of the '84 Welsh somewhere, and when I'm next at my Welsh address I'll dig them out, escpecially now that I'm in the process of acquiring a HSR replica to play with (a story for another thread).

Was deffo KFL306W have pic of it which says "Russek '83". White with Shell and GMDS stickers.
Finland '84 etc was DEB though.
