I seem to remember that very few Magnums were being sold by the time the 'S' registration came round - most were Viva GLS's (predominantly 1256s -
the 1800 GLS superseded the Magnum 1800, but - as far as I know - there was never a 2300GLS.
I suspect this is one of the last produced. |

Yes, it will be one of the last 2300's. I once saw a 'T' reg 2300 but this would be a car that hung around before being registered.
The Magnum 1800 and 2300 finished build around November 1977 (S reg) whilst the Viva 1300 GLS continued and both Magnums were replaced only by the Viva 1800 GLS. The GLS's finished about 6 months before the last HC's which were built until July 1979 |

Hi Duncan and Martin,
I've found this little bit of info for you, September 1977 GX146531 Magnum 1800, 2300 discontinued, only OHC available Viva 1800. March 1979 All OHC engined HC models discontinued. This is quoted from the Sportpart Manual. Simon.

Because I had a Magnum 2300 Estate back in 1978 I used to notice other cars on the road. I don't remember ever seeing a Magnum 2.3 as new as 'S' reg, or with the GLS's velour seats like this one has. I reckon it's a bit of a rarity.... |

To be precise, in April 2008 there were only:
15 taxed Magnum 2300's (Coupe/Saloon/Estate i.e. all variants excluding the Sportshatch) and 17 Magnum 1800's. 9 SORN'd Magnum 2300's (excluding Sportshatch's and 29 Magnum 1800's. Source - Direct from SMMT April 2008 |

Hi Brian, Duncan, Martin, Andrew,
My Magnum, now Bullet replica, started out as an 'S' plate White 2300 estate with the blue interior like yours Brian and its chassis no is very close to that last Magnum as I think the numbering sequence alone, after the letters, is not model specific and doesn't differentiate between 1256, 1800 and 2300 engines, or any trim variant, so for example GX146530 ( the penultimate one ) could well have been a 1256 engined Viva and not a Magnum or possibly not even an HC at all, please correct me if I'm wrong Andrew. Interestingly I have seen a T plate Magnum 2300 automatic, 4 door saloon. It was in metallic blue with full GLS trim and tinted glass. Must have hung around a
long while before selling!

Hi Andrew, 9F15SFX is just a play on the code for the Sports Hatch, and SFX as in special effects. but maybe you could tell me what 'P' stands for in
the engine coding, it is not listed in my parts manual but I think it must stand for 2300 twin carb, my manual states 'Q' for this type. I think you
must be right about 'T' plate Magnums Sean, as it's well past their build cut off. Simon

They did then ! Dark days for Vauxhall back then. I have also seen a T plate Magnum 2300 Estate.

Hi all,
Im a viva owners club member and was just nosing around on the DSG forum looking for bits n peices when I spotted the thread 
thought id better post to say I bought this car!! 
It was first registered in May '78 chassis number 9F69NHX115282, it doesn't have its orginal engine, though it is a 2279cc (single carb) It has gone to a good home - my father was trained as a vauxhall mechanic in his youth and spent most of his working years at a local vauxhall dealership and hes turning out to be a goldmine of information! better than a Haynes manual anyday! -Matt- |

thats not the abay magnum I bought at all haha! the link was not working last time I checked and I figured there couldnt be another S reg magnum on ebay that recently! DOH!!

aha!! the link is just to a search on "vauxhall magnum" in classic cars for sale!! so when the magnum for sale on ebay changed the thread kinda
