Excuse me for saying the obvious, but if your "fellow club members" have plenty of space and are local to you then why not utilise other space when it grieves you so much to break the car?? Then when the current financial climate changed you may well have been able to sell the car and spares for more money.

I know nothing about Landcrabs, but I imagine the Triumph club has a lot more members in it than we do at the DSG, so proportionally more chance of finding someone to take it on
The Register is about 750 and the Land Crab Owners Club half this. Both of which have members who get together to save cars of special interest.

In my near half a Century with classic car clubs I have always understood that this is precisely what a Club is.
So to my understanding your not having a pop at an official "club" just the members and supporters of said club for not rushing out and crossing your palm with silver?

It's just a small group of enthusiasts who share a common interest - to be honest the DSG achieves a lot for the size of the club.
Some of the comments that have come to me privately would disagree.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and in a world of free speech you will normally find positives and negatives, so what's your point?

In a larger club, maybe the club itself would purchase the car and parts, but with our spares scheme facing an undecided future it wouldn't necessarily be sensible to commit to more space at the moment.
There has not even been a suggestion on the forum for people to get together to retain the car in some form ..... even privately (i.e. not as an official club thing) - this is what members of the T2000/2500/2.5 Register and LOCI have been prepared to do privately in the past hence my comparison.
You assume that a group of members or enthusiasts are currently in the position, and have space and funds available to do this, if members in other groups are so quick to do this then why did you not try to find a group (from within your other clubs presumabley, given that they are so accommodating) which had the spare funds available to take this one off you, or indeed store the other long term car you have to enable you to continue to store this?

As for spares prices, well, you just have to ask for what you want or need for them, and go from there - maybe you'll get as much as others have on eBay recently, and maybe not, you know what eBay is like I'm sure.
If at all possible I wanted the car and/or spares to go a member of the enthusiasts club as I knew it in the 1990s but it has obviously changed. Ebay prices achieved recently have been higher than I would have accepted (as the guy who visited me recently about bits and made offers found out). Can't see what is wrong with asking people to make offers - it is just one of the ways of selling things (I have had to do it myself at times). To be honest I got the feeling from a number of people who expressed your view was that they were hoping to get bits for silly low prices.

Personally I dislike giving offers (mine was probably one of those "insulting" offers you received) so tend to go in on the low side. But eBay has shown recently that there are some people prepared to pay what seems like mega-money (to me) for relatively mundane items.
You decide what the item is worth to you less a bit for haggling and make that your offer - simples. This is what I and lots of other last minute bidders on ebay do (less of course the haggling element). I did not know what an item was really worth (and I was not looking for ebay inflated prices) so if an offer was made that was in the wide bracket that I had in mind I accepted it. Just about everything I have sold so far would have gone for much more on ebay (based on end of bid prices), but was happy with what I got and most items were being used to finish cars).
A lot of people are uncomfortable with haggling, which is why we don't barter at Sainsbury's, when people place ads with "open to offers" then the result is usually low offers, and very few of them as people naturally think the required price will be high (hence it's omission) and hence don't bother. Ebay can be inflated and at times you can get an absolute bargain, you make your bid and sometimes get lucky.


It crossed my mind to grab this car and all the bits, but to be honest I've already got one major Sportshatch project that I can't see the end of, and as it's not a bargain (as some cars have been recently) it's not worth it to me.
I was prepared to let everything (including spare nosecone, wings, wheels etc) go for £1500. I have more or less got this now for the new spares and other bits, and the rolling shell is still left plus other bits which if not sold will give me a couple of things for one of my other cars. Someone else could have done this themselves and ended up with a good rolling shell for nothing, saving a Snoot. Sadly it has been pointed out to me that Sportshatches are not wanted and all of the stuff I have sold is HPF or HSR bound.

Listing the rolling shell (£500 buy it now or offers which is what I consider the remaining bits are worth) and other stuff tonight on ebay. Get in pdq if interested or take pot luck in bidding. If not sold I may come back to the forum with a final opportunity to buy what is left of the rolling shell after removing any useful remaining bits but with its identity at its estimated scrap value, but as I have enquiries for the inner wings that may be difficult. If that does not work then it will have to be scrapped.

Good Luck - I hope you get what you are looking for, and maybe then at least you'll stop posting what are frankly insulting posts aimed at the club, its members and followers of the cars in general.

Clearly the text in red above is merely my opinion, and does not represent the opinions or views of the club, its committee or membership, but suffice to say I for one will be happier when I don't have to read the posts and views of someone that clearly isn't interested anyway and must be a bit of a muppet to slate the very people that you believe should be rushing out and saving the car whilst making you a tidy profit.
No doubt Land Crab owners and clubs are a much more civilised breed and will rush out and help their fellow members . . .which strangely enough has been my experience of the DSG over the last year.

Anyway I hope you and your crab will be happy under your rock
