If you want to put photos in your messages, the first thing you have to do is get the photo 'hosted' on the net. There are two ways of doing this;
you can add them to your Yuku profile, or you can open an account with an image host.
To create a photo album in your Yuku profile, click on the 'Navigation' button at the top right of the page:
A window will open with an overview of your account; at the bottom left there's a box marked 'Account' with a link marked 'Image
management' in it:
Click on that and you'll see a page called 'Image management' appear, with a blue button that you can click on to create a new photo album:
Once you've created a new album, click on it and you'll see a button that says 'Upload file' Click on that and then one of the 'Browse'
buttons and you can find the photo on your computer, then click 'Upload' and it'll be loaded into your profile.
NOTE: You automatically get an 'Avatar' album with your profile. Don't put general photos in it - they'll be resized to 100 x 100 (very small!)
Hosting a photo with an image host is very similar, but first you have to set up an acount with an image host. We'd recommend Photobucket as reliable, straightforward and best of all, free. Uploading to
Photobucket is very similar:
Once your image is on the web and you're writing your message or reply, have a look at the buttons at the top of the edit box. There's one that looks
like a mountain with the sun (or maybe moon) above it. Click on that, and you'll get a big navigation bar appear with all your Yuku photo albums on it. To
add an image from one of them, all you've got to do is click on the album, then the image you want.
If you want to add your image from Photobucket or another image host, click on the blue 'Add from URL' button; a prompt box will appear at the top left
of your screen. Copy the 'Image URL' or 'URL link' from your image album, paste it into the prompt box and click OK, and you photo should
appear in your message:
One of the easy things about Photobucket is that you only have to click on the link you want to copy it - you don't need to highlight it then copy
manually.
There's also a button to the right of the Insert Image one that allows you to link your profile with your Photobucket albums, and insert an image straight
from them.
Note we have a maximum size of 640 pixels wide for images, and Yuku have a
maximum size of 100 x 100 px for avatars - the photos next to your user name. This is to make it easier for people to read the posts rather than having to
scroll left and right all the time. We will resize images that are bigger than this, but it's easier all round if you resize them yourself before you put
them on the web. For instructions how to
do this, look here.
Note! If you put a photo in a Yuku or Photobucket album, then delete or move it, it will also disappear from the
forum! All we'll see is a little box with a red X, or a placeholder saying 'this image has been moved'. If you're posting anything that
you want to last for more than a week or two, either don't move the photo or tell us, and we'll copy it and put it up again.
